The SIG MCX Spear LT is the greatest rifle release from SIG Sauer, Inc. since the original gen 1 SIG MCX modular rifle system. The SIG MCX Spear LT comes in 300 BLK, 5.56x45mm, and 7.62x39mm. Finally, a SIG MCX in 7.62x39mm. This article will focus on the SIG MCX Spear LT 5.56 11.5″ SBR. This SBR was originally a SIG MCX Spear LT 11.5″ Pistol, form 2’d to a SBR (defund the ATF). If you want to skip the read, head straight to the SIG MCX Spear LT YouTube below.
The SIG MCX SPEAR LT Features and Ergonomics
SIG MCX Spear LT is finally a true ambidextrous weapon system. It utilizes a small (sheet metal) bolt release, bolt lock tab above the right side receiver magazine release (see picture below). We love this feature and it’s both bolt release and bolt hold open. User beware, it is sheet metal, and the dust cover also lives in the same area; hitting this hard, no gloves could result in a lifted finger nail. Practice makes perfect.
The SIG MCX Spear LT comes with a factory SIG “AR-15” trigger. It feels like a fantastic trigger out of the box. We ran this trigger for the entirety of the SIG MCX Spear LT YT video we produced, but soon swapped it over to a Geissle SSA-E. We had a noticeable amount of trigger lock (from short stroking) on the weapon when attempting to run it fast. According to a person at SIG, the G triggers will inevitably break over time. SIG MCX Spear LT and other SIG MCX / MPX systems have been very hard on after market triggers. We are keeping a round count tally on our G trigger and will report (update this article) if anything changes.
The handguard on the SIG MCX Spear LT was upgraded. It was lightened up (finally M-LOK that works more like real M-LOK and not some nonsense on the old MCX handguards), has three screw locations for added stability. The ergonomics on the SIG MCX Spear LT handguard are much more comfortable that the older SIG MCX systems. Rumors circulated that there was flex in the new SIG MCX Spear LT handguards, but we cannot seem to replicate here.
We are fans of the new SIG MCX Spear LT grips as well. We like the pinky capture. Seems to contain the whole hand nicely.
Accessories on Our SIG MCX SPEAR LT SBR
Let’s do a quick run through on the accessories on our SIG MCX Spear LT. Our favorite low-profile light switch is the Modlite Modbutton Lite.
Please note that an older style Dual-Fuel Surefire Scout light is being used. We had to go with the Arisaka Defense OSM-M mounted to the lower side of the SIG MCX Spear LT handguard to position the light as forward as possible.
The photo below shows the location of the Arisaka on the SIG MCX Spear LT handguard, but post video, we have moved it down and forward, 1 M-LOK slot moving the light down but more forward. The SIG MCX Spear LT handguard has a false M-LOL slot on this plane, so we moved to the lower, full-length M-LOK. See the FINAL photo for the finished configuration of the light setup.
The Surefire Dual Fuel Scout Pro is our light of choice for the SIG MCX Spear LT. It’s different than the one in the photos and video. This one comes factory with a swivel hinge and a M-LOK attachment for the articulating arm.
Below, we have the new ANVL MFG Romeo 4T 1.93 Optic mount. This is a prototype, but we wanted to test it with the new Romeo 4XT Pro! The SIG Sauer Romeo 4XT Pro is the new AAA version of the the Romeo 4T.
The Link-Lite Sling is the sling we are running on the SIG MCX Spear LT. We actually ran this sling for the SIG MCX Spear LT specifically. The Link-Lite is perfect for the SIG MCX Spear LT. It’s our lightest weight sling and one of the lightest slings on the market, if not, the lightest. The SIG SAUER MCX SURG was the predecessor to the SPEAR LT.
The Link-Lite Sling on the SIG MCX Spear LT, is IR blocking. All the hardware and fasteners on the Link-Lite sling are treated for IR Blocking.
The best way to capture slings on the market, is the NeoMag Sentry Strap. The Sentry Strap is perfect for the SIG MCX Spear LT due to the height and width of the handguard. Handguards that are too skinny can be problematic for Sentry Strap. The SIG MCX Spear LT is perfect and keeps the Sentry Strap in place and tight.

Here is a very detailed YouTube Review of the SIG MCX SPEAR LT SBR that we built out.
In Closing on the SIG MCX SPEAR LT 5.56 SBR
The SIG MCX Spear LT slaps! Higher pressure 55gr Xtac loads on the “-” gas setting with a high or low flow can, result in perfect 3 o’clock ejection. This is the only 5.56x45mm MCX we wanted in our lineup. The weight savings over the older MCX is what pushed us to move to the SIG MCX Spear LT 11.5″ SBR. Hope you enjoyed this article and video!
