Heckler & Koch have finally entered the micro-compact pistol market with the release of the HK CC9. This highly anticipated 9mm pistol boasts impressive features in a small package, making it comparable in size to the Glock 43 and Sig Sauer P365. Notably, the CC9 is designed to meet the NATO AC/225 specification, ensuring reliability and interchangeability with ammunition used by NATO forces.
What is the NATO AC/225 Specification?
The NATO AC/225 specification plays a crucial role in ensuring the interchangeability and reliability of pistol ammunition used by NATO forces. This standardization agreement defines critical parameters like cartridge dimensions, chamber pressure limits, and performance requirements for pistol cartridges, ensuring that ammunition produced by different member nations functions seamlessly in NATO-standard pistols. This interoperability is vital for logistical efficiency and operational effectiveness, allowing for smooth ammunition supply and exchange between different national units during joint operations and exercises. By adhering to the AC/225 specification, NATO ensures that its pistol ammunition is safe, reliable, and performs consistently across its diverse inventory of handguns.
Optic Cut on the HK CC9
The CC9 comes optic-ready with an RMSc footprint and features front cocking serrations for easy manipulation. It also includes X-ray sights with a high-visibility green front dot. Our test model arrived equipped with a Holosun 407k optic, showcasing its compatibility with popular micro red dots. Chambered in 9mm, the CC9 utilizes a 3.32-inch barrel.
Ergonomics and Features
The CC9’s grip is remarkably ergonomic, with a single finger groove and interchangeable backstraps to accommodate various hand sizes. One magazine includes a pinky extension for users with larger hands, allowing for a full grip and better recoil management. The pistol features an aggressive, randomized stipple texture for enhanced control, and even a well-placed thumb rest near the trigger guard.
The slide stop is strategically positioned to prevent accidental engagement and proved reliable during our testing. It features a distinctive “reverse staircase” texturing for easy activation and is ambidextrous for added versatility.
Takedown and Controls
Disassembly of the CC9 is straightforward and mirrors other striker-fired HK pistols like the VP9. Simply lock the slide to the rear, rotate the takedown lever downward, and remove the slide. The CC9 also features an ambidextrous magazine release, easily accessible and reversible for both left and right-handed shooters.
Capacity and CC9 Holster Considerations
Capacity is a strong suit for the CC9, shipping with 10 and 12-round magazines. This gives it a 13+1 capacity, rivaling that of the Sig P365 while maintaining a compact footprint. We’re pleased to see HK embrace this higher capacity trend in the micro-compact segment.
As a new model, the CC9 requires a proprietary holster. ANR Design has partnered with HK to produce holsters specifically for this pistol, available through the HK web store. These holsters feature a unique design element: a 3/4-inch muzzle extension. This extension enhances concealment by preventing the short barrel from tilting outwards, keeping the pistol closer to the body. Think of it like the keel of a sailboat, providing stability and countering the leverage of the grip. This innovative feature sets the ANR Design HK CC9 holster apart from the competition.
The CC9 OWB holster is crafted with concealment in mind for strong side carry. The pancake belt loops help keep the CC9 outside-the-waistband holster super tight to the body. This allows the CC9 to be concealed with loose fitting garments over the gun and holster for outside-the-waistband concealment.

Nicely done ANR! Great review. I own a PDP, which is a little large for concealed carry, so I’m anxious to see pricing on the CC9. Your holster is definitely a winner!
Thank you Frank!
