The Perfect AR-15 Sling Setup

Archives

School of thought on the perfect AR-15 sling setup is keeping the front and rear of the sling, as far apart as possible. This gives the end user the ability to use the sling to it’s full potential. Whether it is stowing the weapon tight to the body, ability to move the weapon system to the user’s back or tight to the side, having slack or taking up slack to tighten the sling to the handguard aiding in stabilizing the weapon system, and more. Mounting the sling close to the receiver front and on the lower receiver, above the hand, makes for harder positive use of your weapon sling and weapon system.

Adjustable and Modular

The perfect AR-15 sling needs to be modular and easy to stow, easy to reset (in training), easy to mount and use. Some slings in the market have integral keepers or retention systems. They are cumbersome and hard to stow and reset during training. When taking a vehicle course or VCQB, the rifle needs to be reset in a stowed sling configuration every drill. This becomes tedious with some slings. Our Link Sling does not have an internal keeper. We love the NeoMag Sentry Strap that is a magnet sling retention system. It fixes to the weapon system with Velcro, and a secondary flap has an integral magnet to keep the sling stowed. It’s super easy to deploy the Link Sling and reset it; saving time on the range and in the field.

“Sentry strap is NeoMag’s solution to the issue that is sling staging.  True to our style, we use 2 powerful magnets inside the Sentry strap to hold your sling fast to your rifle. Deploying is simple; grab your sling, and tug. The sentry strap breaks away on its own. Fast and easy. That’s the way we like it.

The minimum size the Sentry Strap will fit is roughly 1″ (a buffer tube). The maximum circumference is 10″ (3.25 Max Diameter). The Sentry Strap is secured with Velcro. The sling catch is secured with magnets and will fit anything from padded slings to webbing straps.” Get Your Sentry Strap Here!

A one inch webbing sling is fantastic. It does not weigh a lot, coming in at 3.6oz with pad, and 2.4oz without. There is very little mass, if any, to affect the snap or swing of the weapon system. The one inch webbing is less encumbering and the short, but effective shoulder pad causes little interference with the movement of the sling on the end-user’s body. Some slings have two foot, 500D Cordura pads that abrade the user’s neck from constant high ready or low ready drills. The padding and material on the ANR Link Sling is smooth and soft on the skin. It causes much less friction than 500D.

We put together this comprehensive YouTube video to help you build out your rifle or PDW with our sling. We sell 1.25 and 1.00 inch QD swivels with The Link Sling.
