It is super easy to adjust holster retention on ANR Design KYDEX holsters. If these steps below don’t remedy your tight KYDEX holster; it’s advised to reach out to the manufacturer and have it adjusted with heat. KYDEX is a thermoplastic where heat soften and expands, while cold can shrink and cause the KYDEX to become brittle. KYDEX is not an impervious medium, but certainly the most forgiving in the holster world.
Adjusting OWB Holster Retention
Certain ANR builders offer an option called adjustable retention. This feature allows users to adjust how easy or difficult it is to remove the gun from the holster.
By adjusting the screw head clockwise shown here, the user can tighten the retention, which will require more force to remove the pistol from the holster.
By adjusting the screw counter clockwise, it will loosen the adjustment and allow for less retention making it easier to remove the pistol from the holster. All holsters come factory ready with what we call factory retention standards, but the adjustable retention allows for finer tune.
The location marked with the yellow circle, is the retention adjustment screw for this ANR Design Standard OWB holster with pancake loops. Tactical OWB holsters or KYDEX holsters on drop-leg systems follow the below suggestions for adjusting holster retention.

Adjusting Retention on an AIWB Holster
Adjusting retention on an AIWB KYDEX holster is the same as the above directions. The only difference is that AIWB KYDEX holsters and Lightbearing AIWB KYDEX holsters typically have two or three adjustment bushings. This disperses the retention over a wider surface area. Sometimes retention in multiple locations is the solution to having the perfect retention in a KYDEX holster.

Uniform tightness of bushings is paramount. It ensures the retention is evenly distributed and hardware will not over-loosen and fall out. This holster, pictured above, is in need of re-tensioning uniformity of the retention screws. Always check your equipment. KYDEX holsters are always in flux. They are not bomb-proof. They do wear out, flex, crack, and fatigue. Inspecting your KYDEX holster is no different than checking your tire pressure.
